Intake area

Mosman Park School for Deaf Children is located within the campus of Mosman Park Primary School, at 91 Victoria Street, Mosman Park. 6012.

Most students utilise the School Bus Services and come from all over the metropolitan area.

The student enrolments come from a catchment area spanning north to the Vines, south to Secret Harbour and east to Lynwood.

Mosman Park School for Deaf Children caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 6 who communicate either orally or using Auslan.

Staff

Mosman Park School for Deaf Children has a team of dedicated teaching and support staff with a wide range of expertise in the area of Deaf/hard of hearing education.

Bilingual / Bicultural

Mosman Park School for Deaf Children and Mosman Park Primary School have a strong belief in inclusion and diversity. We value difference and understand the need to provide individualised targets for students in order for them to achieve their potential. We celebrate being Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the differences it brings. Deaf children are learning successfully in this inclusive environment because there is explicit attention drawn to their academic and social development.

A unique program

Mosman Park School for Deaf Children and Mosman Park Primary School have a unique Bilingual/Bicultural primary program.

Students also have individual speech and language lessons with the Speech Teacher.

Parents are a valued part of the program

We respect the role Parents/Carers play in their child's development. Our programs involve the Parents and the Deaf community in school decisions pertinent to the education of Deaf children. Parents are invited to participate in excursions and classroom activities.

Early Intervention

The Early Intervention program develops a unique profile of each student and identifies specific gaps in their Learning. Each student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that is closely monitored and progress reported regularly to Parents.

Auslan and Deaf Culture

Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have explicit teaching in Literacy and Numeracy each morning in a small group situation.  Some students have the opportunity to increase their time in a mainstream class according to their ability. Auslan and Deaf Culture is taught to all students at the Mosman Park Schools.

Both Mosman Park School for Deaf Children and Mosman Park Primary School actively participate in a wide range of school based and inter-school sporting activities such as:

  • Swimming and athletics carnivals
  • Summer and winter inter school competitions
  • Cross country and triathlon
  • Weekly sport sessions
  • In term swimming lessons
